Why did Miller wrote a political allegory? Why didn’t he directly speak out against the authority?

He chose not to speak out against it directly, because he would be prosecuted by the McCarthyism. In addition, by using satirization, the piece is able to let the reader discover the absurd of McCarthyism better.

A play has an emphasis of performance, comparing to other mediums, like novel, music, etc. Characters are portrayed using gesture languages and tone of actors. This trait helps audience to better understand the message.
